Our psychiatric rehabilitation program at A&E Healthcare Services Inc. is dedicated to establishing high standards in behavioral and mental health care. We focus on creating a supportive environment that fosters hope and empowerment for individuals seeking assistance.

Our Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) for Children and Adolescents enhances mental health services by identifying each child’s strengths, skills, and needs. This time-limited program offers individual and group activities at our facility, the child’s home, or community locations.

Services are family-focused and tailored to leverage the strengths of both the child and their family. Rehabilitation goals are developed with input from mental health professionals in Baltimore, Maryland, and family discussions. PRP staff regularly assess progress and provide monthly reports to the primary therapist and other involved mental health professionals.

Admission Criteria

The participant must have a PBHS specialty mental health diagnosis as defined by DSM-5 and should be expected to stabilize at this level of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) care.

Services

  • Choose services that children and their families want to receive, whether onsite, offsite or a combination of both.
  • Provide services according to a monthly calendar of activities, which typically includes a mix of onsite and offsite options.
  • Distribute monthly program calendars to all children and their families.
  • Schedule visits with children and their families or guardians based on individual needs, preferences, and availability.
  • Require children participating in both on-site and off-site services to engage in at least three visits or services each month (either two on-site activities and one off-site visit or one on-site activity and two off-site visits).
  • Mandate individuals who opt for only onsite or offsite services to participate in at least two monthly activities or visits.
  • Arrange additional visits based on the child’s needs and availability.

Eligibility Requirements

A child must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between 5 and 17 years old
  • Be actively engaged in mental health treatment
  • Be referred by a licensed mental health professional
  • Be diagnosed with a behavioral health condition
  • Be willing to participate in PRP services
  • Be a recipient of Medical Assistance

Referral Process

  1. Complete and submit a Referral Form, along with a Professional Assertion of Need (confirmation that the child meets the criteria for medical necessity).
  2. Our PRP staff will reach out to the family, guardian, or foster care provider to arrange an in-person screening/meeting to:
    • Evaluate the child’s need for rehabilitation services and their willingness to engage in PRP services.
    • Assess the program’s capacity to meet the child’s behavioral health needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of activities are offered in the PRP for Children and Adolescents?
Our program includes both individual and group activities focused on life skills, emotional regulation, social development, and academic support. Activities can take place at our facility, in the home, or within the community.
Can parents or guardians be involved in the program?
Yes. Our program is family-focused, and we encourage active participation from parents or guardians during the goal-setting process and throughout the child’s care journey.
How often do children need to participate in services each month?
If children are enrolled in both on-site and off-site services, they are required to participate in a minimum of three activities per month. If they are enrolled in only one service type, they are required to visit at least two times monthly.
What skills are taught in the child and adolescent PRP?
Children and teens learn coping strategies, social skills, anger management, organization skills, and independent living skills. Our trained staff tailors support to meet the unique needs of each young person.
When should a family consider a PRP for a child or teenager?
Families should consider a PRP when a young person struggles with emotional regulation, social skills, or daily living activities despite ongoing therapy. Our program offers additional support that bridges gaps between therapy sessions and real-world skills.
