Common Reactions of People to Traumatic Events

living room

After feeling the relief of staying alive, a person who experienced a traumatic event may have different reactions afterward. The recovery could take months or years, sometimes needing psychiatric rehabilitation in Maryland.

As an outpatient mental health clinic in Baltimore, Maryland, we are more concerned about the aftermath of a traumatic event, for this may cause the following reactions:

  • Disbelief
  • Feelings of fear, shock, anger, sadness, worry, numbness, or frustration
  • Changes in appetite, energy, desires, and interests
  • Difficulty sleeping or nightmares, focusing, and making decisions
  • Physical reactions, such as headaches, body pains, stomach problems, and skin rashes

The impact of trauma is different for every individual. Some may recover quickly through medication management and forget about the incident, but others may find it difficult to move on.

And that is when victims will need support from mental health professionals. They will need a strong and dependable support system that could help them cope with trauma and its aftermath. They need A&E Healthcare Services, Inc.

Encourage them not to dwell on the trauma of the past but focus on the good things waiting for them in the future. Let them finish a psychiatric rehabilitation program if needed.
