Significance of Sleep in Your Mental Health

If you’re concerned about the way you sleep, you’re not alone in feeling this way. Roughly 25% of the population has trouble falling or staying asleep.

There is a progression of phases that we go through while we are sleeping. While you are sleeping, a number of different processes are going on inside of your head, and it is the fact that these processes are taking place that distinguishes between the various stages of sleep.

There are various negative consequences that may arise from not getting enough sleep, and they can have an impact on the body as well as the mind. Lack of sleep has been linked to mental health issues such as depression, irritability, lack of motivation, and weariness.

Although Medication Management may be able to help you obtain a better night’s sleep, it is not a good idea to depend on medications as your only method of getting to sleep.

Insufficiency or excess sleep may have negative effects on our mental health, and vice versa; problems like anxiety are often made worse by disrupted sleep patterns and many Mental Health Professionals can attest to this.
